Importance of Tree Maintenance

A question that gets asked a lot is why should I trim or prune my trees?  Does it really make a difference? The truth is yes, it really does make a difference.  First and foremost, it makes them look pretty. You’ve spent the time and energy in creating and maintaining your outdoor space, that includes the trees as well. Just as you trim your shrubs and mow your grass, your trees need the same maintenance. Think of it as a haircut for your trees. Pruning is done for aesthetic appeal, and you can trim your trees into a shape that is pleasing to you, as well as one that compliments your surroundings.

Secondly, keeps them healthy.  Trimming your trees can influence the way the tree grows.  Trimming back dead branches helps minimize the risk of mold or rot which attract insects, which can cause the tree to weaken and fall. Pruning your tree helps encourage tree growth.

Thirdly for safety reasons. Dead branches can fall easily during a storm which can result is damage to your home. Branches hanging over your roof should be inspected and trimmed back to minimize roof damage during a storm.

With proper pruning, a tree can be made to grow into a certain configuration of limbs and branches that is more ideal for the structural integrity of the tree. Maintaining the tree’s structure helps to mitigate the risk of broken limbs and falling branches.
